Cameroon Youth Peacebuilders residential training program: hope for idle youth in Cameroon

Our second cohort of the residential training programme just end. This programme provided a safe, eco-friendly, and resourceful space outside of the conflict zone for idle youth between the ages of 18 and 35 from the North West and South West regions of Cameroon  to recalibrate, build resilience, and develop their vital livelihood and peacebuilding skills to enable them to become confident and resilient ambassadors of sustainable peace and development in Cameroon.

Founder's Story

As a teenager, I almost lost my life due to an act of violence. This incident made me dislike violent conflicts. At university, I studied the philosophies of peace activists and developed a passion for peacebuilding. There has been ongoing armed conflict in Cameroon since 2016. Politicians and warlords are inciting and instrumentalizing youths into acts of violence. Therefore, I am engaging idle youth in peacebuilding activities.

Testimonials

“My name is Kena. In 2018, my father was killed by unknown gunmen, and my family was displaced, left struggling to survive. At 23, I dropped out of school and lived with fear, shame, and hopelessness. My self‑esteem was shattered, and I carried deep anger and guilt. When I joined Ndabuchiseh’s training program, I was assessed and guided through counselling, peace practices, and livelihood skills. Gradually, I began to see my trauma as part of my past rather than a continuing threat. I regained my confidence, rebuilt my dignity, and found new purpose. Today, I proudly engage other young people in peaceful activities, turning my pain into a source of hope and inspiration. Ndabuchiseh gave me the chance to heal and the courage to help others do the same.”

“My name is Bona. The conflict in our region left me deeply traumatized after the death of loved ones. I carried pain, anger, and hopelessness that weighed on me every day. When I joined Ndabuchiseh’s training program, I found a safe space to heal. Through trauma recovery sessions, peacebuilding workshops, and mentorship, I began to rediscover my strength and purpose. Today, I am healed and empowered. I have started my own initiative reaching out to other traumatized youth, helping them find hope and resilience just as I did. Ndabuchiseh gave me more than skills—it gave me back my life and the courage to become a peacebuilder in my community.”

“My name is Amabel. I was a teacher, but when the conflict broke out, schools were shut down and I found myself idle at home, uncertain about the future. The silence of classrooms and the absence of children weighed heavily on me. Joining Ndabuchiseh’s training program changed everything. Through peacebuilding education, vocational skills, and mentorship, I regained hope and discovered new ways to serve my community. Inspired by what I learned, I launched my own initiative called Bobo Nkeng. There, I gathered children from my neighborhood and began teaching them peace education, helping them understand dialogue, tolerance, and nonviolence. Today, I see these children growing not only in knowledge but also in compassion and resilience.
